Ruth Shitrit invests in the community to a considerable extent in various areas, among other things, she is a member of the Board of Governors and Board of Directors of the Tel Aviv Museum. During recent years, Shitrit has tirelessly worked on behalf of the museum and the promotion of its interests both in Israel and the world.

Thanks to her professional experience in the advertising industry and as a communications and public relations consultant, as well as her multifold talents and pleasant personality, Shitrit has also greatly helped in the expansion and development of the circle of donors and friends of the museum in this country and abroad.

Furthermore, Shitrit was also involved in the construction of a new building at the museum, which in fact doubled the area of the museum and included ten new galleries, as well as contributing to the fulfillment of its educational programs.

In 2009, as part of the annual session of the Board of Governors of the Museum, Ruth Shitrit received an Honorary Fellow of the Museum Award from Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai, along with well-known personalities such as the poet Meir Wieseltier and tycoon Ron Lauder.

In 2012 a new auditorium and art gallery was inaugurated at the Tel Aviv Museum in the name of her daughter Miri Shitrit (of blessed memory), who passed away from cancer at a young age. Ruth Shitrit and her husband Meir were among the major contributors to the establishment of the auditorium, because of their desire to commemorate their daughter.

About the Tel Aviv Museum of Art

The Tel Aviv Museum was founded in 1932, at the initiative of Meir Dizengoff, the first mayor of Tel Aviv. The museum was in fact founded in his own home, where the ceremony of declaration of Israel's independence was held in 1948. The museum was a success and its collections began to expand, which necessitated transfer to new and bigger premises, and finally it transferred to its present location. Thanks to the generosity of artists and collectors, who contributed a variety of works to the museum, and thanks to the support and dedication of the Friends of the Museum from this country and abroad, the number of works housed at the museum has grown constantly over the course of the years and continues to grow.

Tel Aviv Museum of Art is considered one of the largest museums in Israel, and creations from many and varied fields are on display, including Israeli art, modern art, contemporary art, photography, drawing, prints, design, architecture, and 16th century to 19th century art. In addition cultural activities such as classical music events, movie screenings, children's plays and lectures are held regularly.
