About the Give kids the World Non-Profit Association

Ruth Shitrit is a member of the administration of the "Give Children the World" Association in the name of her her late daughter Miri Shitrit (of blessed memory), who passed away from cancer when she was only 15.

The association was founded with the purpose of fulfilling the wishes of cancer patients and to give them a week of special family enjoyment, which sometimes is their last positive family experience.

The association, as one of the projects led by Israel Cancer Association, in cooperation with Ruth Shitrit and her husband Meir, every year sends about two hundred children with advanced stages of cancer, together with their families, for a seven day vacation at a special holiday resort for children in Orlando, Florida, USA. The resort offers villas equipped with facilities and services adapted to patients, to alleviate their stay and enable them to participate in a variety of activities and entertainment options.

About the Israel Cancer Association

The Association was founded in 1952 in order to lead the fight against cancer in Israel, and since then it operates in various ways to raise awareness of the disease and to reduce morbidity and mortality. Ruth Shitrit serves as a member of the Board of Governors of the Association and chairperson of the Overseas Operations Division.

Every year dozens of people become sick with various types of cancer, but thanks to the activities of the Israel Cancer Association there has been a considerable increase in the number of patients who were cured of the disease, as well as a significant improvement in the quality of life of other patients.

The activities of the Association are not financed by any government ministry, but are made possible thanks to donations from the public. As a result of these donations the Association is able to purchase advanced and innovative medical equipment for hospitals in Israel for treatment of cancer, to fund academic research and clinical researchers and Israeli doctors in order to find cures, to conduct various activities to raise awareness of the disease among the public, to initiate national programs to encourage early diagnosis, which could increase the degree of healing, to provide financial support for cancer patients who encounter financial distress, to help children with cancer to make up for studies they have missed because of treatments or hospitalizations, to finance the employment of social workers and nurses to help patients in clinics and hospitals, as well as operating summer vacations for patients and their families, such as "Give Kids the World".
